Strategic Overview of Touch Solutions
Traditional methods of developing additional functionality on EFTPOS devices generally require bespoke application development. This approach:
- Increases the technical management of applications on the terminal (including the potential for compliance and socialisation issues)
- Reduces the available memory for core payment applications
The technical complexity associated with managing applications additional to the core payment application is often not warranted.
By utilizing the Touch VAS Client / pcTouch in the environment, all functionality additional to the core payment application is removed from the terminal as shown below.
By adopting this approach all applications are connected to the Touch Host and transaction processing is performed through the Touch VAS Client layer on the terminal.
The benefits of this approach are:
- Technical management is reduced at the terminal layer and becomes the responsibility of the Touch layers
- EMV Compliance issues with bespoke applications are removed
- Complex functions like Store and Forward functionality or Card Prefix Allocation Table handling can be utilized at the Touch layer instead of interfering with core payment functions.
- Additional products can be commissioned in the layer in manners of weeks instead of months
- The cost for adding products to the layer for both the product owner and terminal owner is reduced substantially.
- Connectivity to application hosts is managed directly to the Touch environment
